Drywall is sold in 4×8 and 4×12 sheets and is measured in square feet for estimation purposes. The key calculation is converting room wall and ceiling area into sheet count — accounting for the direction sheets are hung (horizontal vs. vertical changes how cuts align to studs), and subtracting door and window openings. Joint compound is typically applied in three coats (tape coat, fill coat, finish coat) and covers roughly 50 sq ft per pound per coat. Tape runs the full length of every joint.
